Zion’s Easter Egg Hunt
We are currently looking for volunteers to donate their time to help make the event a success as well as those willing to donate candy and fill eggs. Volunteering during the event is fun and rewarding! The more volunteers the better. Please use the link below to access the sign-up sheet:
If you are unable to volunteer, consider donating a bag of candy or two. We are collecting pre-wrapped, egg sized candy, to fill the eggs (not chocolate, because it melts). Candy is being collected in the school and church offices. Send candy in your child’s backpack and we’ll get it where it needs to go!
Working in the blocks this morning to stabilize the tall blocks. They are tricky to stabilize! The friends worked hard collaboratively to try many different solutions!
Sammie made a blueprint to help her think through the solution!
Many of the friends chose to practice writing other friends' names today! They also worked to draw pictures for each other. :)
Measuring the carpet together takes teamwork! They friends are also independently practicing number recognition!
Reviewing the alphabet independently
Fun in the commons
During morning meeting we played a game that increases our critical thinking. I drew a picture of a very big dog. (Remember God gave us all different gifts; I do not have the gift of drawing. ;) ) However, the dog's food bowl was very small. The children brainstormed ideas of how we could fix this problem. Here are some of the great solutions that we came up with:
"Buy a bigger bowl."
"Make the dog smaller."
"Make the dog's mouth smaller so that it will fit in the bowl."
"Make the dog's food big."
We also started a new collection of our favorite words! We will add words that we read in books or other words that we learn to this wall. This will help to increase our vocabulary. Research shows that children with a large vocabulary perform better in school. We added some of the words from the book Llama Llama Red Pajama to our favorite words wall today!
I encourage you to use these words at home with your children to help expand their vocabulary! Here are the words we added:
WAIL
WEEP
FRET
During small group time, we prepared for our tournament! Once all of the preparations were made, we performed the tournament for some of the other classes! The children did a FANTASTIC job! I will share the video with you via google drive today.
We celebrated all we have learned about castles with a special popcorn snack!!
During second free choice, some of the friends worked together to build a structure that they thought might not be steady, but turned out to be! We brainstormed why this might be to increase our critical thinking skills.
Some of the friends again practiced writing names and words during free choice time!
Other friends engaged in mature play as they assigned roles and planned their play in the castle.
During Jesus time we learned the story of Jesus riding in to Jerusalem as found in Matthew 21:1-11. We learned that Jesus is our King of kings. He is the Lord of heaven and earth, who has saved us from our sin!!
