Our friends we eager to explore our new "Explore on the Floor" center.  They learned to be so careful with the items in the center.  They children are exploring items from nature.  Their curiosity about these items leads to further learning!

We were also excited to play with some of the new dog items today!

Some of the friends made dog houses in the blocks for their dogs!

Brynne worked to create in her journal.

Some friends explored the new play dough. They are strengthening their fine motor skills and expressing creativity.

Yay!  We had fun in the commons!

During small group time we webbed what we know about dogs.  We will use the web as a basis for our learning throughout the project and compare it with the web at the end of the project to see how much we have learned.  We also drew pictures of dogs.  At the end of the project we will draw another picture of a dog and compare the two pictures to see how much we have learned.

We also explored in our new center.  The children wrote their findings and questions.  This is a great opportunity to engage in meaningful writing practice.

We then made a dog out of play dough.  We took pictures of our dog creations, and we will make another dog out of play dough at the end of the project to see how much we have learned.

During second free choice time, Brynne made her own graph asking the other friends if they liked blue or not.

Some of the friends made more dog houses for the dogs.

Zack showed the friends how the dogs could have a race track to play on too!

Many of the friends chose to take care of the dogs.  They have already identified various roles needed to take care of the dogs. As I have shared before, assigning various roles is a sign of mature play.  Engaging in mature play is a goal of early childhood education. These are the roles the friends identified as we planned our play:

Dog Walker

Dog Cleaner

Dog Brusher

Dog Owner

Dog Show Person

Riley worked to bake cookies with the play dough.

I asked her to write the recipe so that we could make them again! This was a great time to engage in meaningful writing practice.

Hunter and Isaac went to the work it out table to resolve a conflict they were having about one of the dogs.  This helps the children to practice problem solving and cooperation in a positive way.

Bryson worked to write a label for his structure.

Violet then took her dog to dog school.  Teacher Riley helped them learn the letters!

Hunter made an airplane in the LEGOS.  He too worked to write a label for his airplane!

During Jesus time we learned the story of the woman anointing Jesus' head and feet as found in Matthew 26:6-13.  We learned that she anointed Jesus to honor Him.  We can honor Jesus too because He died and rose again to save us from our sins!
