Happy Friday!
The friends started straight to work to re-create New York city this morning. Many of the children worked together on New York City almost the whole free choice time! They not only engaged in problem solving and persistence, but they also engaged in self-regulation as well! Self-regulation is the ability to control one's impulses, and is a skill that impacts development at all ages and stages.
Many of the friends read together in the castle. Although the children are unable to read the words int he book at this time, they are learning concepts of print which are valuable pre-reading skills.
Once again, we loved played in the the squeaky puppets in the commons! We look forward to next week when we will be able to play outside again!
During small group time, we did an observational drawing of a tournament. Observational drawings help to increase fine motor skills as well as practice creating a representation of a scene or event.
We also painted good junk to complete our torches for the tournament.
We then practiced acting out the tournament for next week! The children helped identify their roles what what they should do acting as those roles.
During second free choice, many of the friends chose to create. As the children create they are developing important skills. They are strengthening fine motor skills. They also are engaging in creative thinking which leads to cognitive development.
Other friends enjoyed the new books on CDs!
Some of the friends went back to work creating another city in the blocks.
Joey wondered how tall our tower was. He used the measuring tape to see! Great problem solving Joey!
Castle role play
During Jesus time we worked together to re-tell the story of Zaccheaus. When we finished re-telling the story, we all shouted that Jesus loves everyone no matter what! That is the BEST news. No matter what we do, Jesus will ALWAYS love us!! He loves us so much that He died on the cross and rose again to save us from our sins!!
