Happy Monday!

This week we will continue in Phase Two of our castle project.  The children are very excited to build a castle with cardboard in our classroom this week!

Many of the friends engaged in castle play this morning!  Through their play, the children are expanding what they already know, and forming questions for further investigation.

"Do the knights live in the castle?"

"What about the other kingdom?"

We will try to answer these questions throughout the project!  The beauty of project based learning is that it capitalizes on student interest and inquiry.  The children are not only learning, but they are also learning how to learn and love learning!

We had a fun dance party in the commons this morning!

We had our free choice time before small groups today because we had a special visitor coming to our class!

During free choice time, many of the friends chose to help paint our drawbridge door for our classroom entry!

Our castle play continued throughout all areas of the classroom.

Some friends explored the shape magnets! They are learning persistence, collaboration, and engaging in spatial reasoning!

Victoria and Anabelle worked diligently and cooperatively in the shape magnets.

For our small group time, we had a special visitor, Mr. Douglas, come and show us some things about building.

He showed us some of the tools we need to build.  We will use some of those tools when we build our own castle this week!

The children took turns taking pictures and videos with the iPads.  We will be able to refer back to these pictures and videos when we have questions!

Mr. Douglas told us that he was going to build a small castle in our classroom!  We were so excited! We watched as he mixed up some mortar for the castle.

He showed us how to lay the blocks one by one ensuring to level each block.  We learned that the mortar is what holds the blocks together!  This will help us as we begin building the castle out of cardboard in our classroom!

During Jesus time, we learned the story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people.  We learned that because of sin in the world, it is sometimes difficult to get the things we need.  However, God richly blesses us with all that we need- daily bread and the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ!
