Happy Monday!
Look how elaborate and intricate our block structures are becoming! The children are collaborating to create. They are learning social skills that will benefit them throughout their lives!
Castle play
Even though the children are not able to read the words of a book et, they are learning valuable concepts of print including: print orientation, context clues (based on the pictures), and the love of learning!
Fun in the commons!
During small group time we created in our journals!
We also finished putting the "blocks" on our castle.
We tried our ideas for getting the drawbridge to go up and down. We found the way that works best is by using string!
We then had to problem solve how to get the bottom of the drawbridge to stay. We tried string again, but that did not work. One of the friends said, "My ideas never work." We discussed that sometimes our ideas don't work, and that is okay! We discussed that the most important this is that we keep trying and thinking of new ideas!
We then tried taping the door to the floor, and that seemed to work!
We practicing rolling the drawbridge up.
We also practiced gently putting it back down.
During second free choice time, the drawbridge added depth to our play. The children had to work together to roll the door up.
They also learned that we need a gatekeeper to ensure the gate is closed once the drawbridge is up.
Inside the castle play
Hunter made binoculars for the lookout tower!
Our castle ball!
Mr. Debrick came to inspect our castle to ensure that it was safe for us to play in.
Bryson showed him how the drawbridge works.
Joey showed him how to shut the gate.
We passed our inspection!! The children were so excited!
During Jesus time we learned the story of Jesus blessing the children. We learned that sometimes we don't feel loved. However, we know that Jesus loves us no matter what! He loves us so much that He died on the cross and rose again to save us from our sins!
