Happy Monday!

This morning our estimation jar had up to seven items in it!  The children are very interested in writing the numbers themselves on their own paper!  Their writing skills are growing, but most importantly their confidence and interest in writing is growing!

As we make creations for friends and family, we have another opportunity to practice writing letters and learning the sounds of the letters!

Pastor Rouland came to talk to our class today about Ash Wednesday. Tomorrow we will attend chapel with the whole school at 8:10, and we will receive ashes on our forehead.  Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent.  Lent is a time before Easter that we remember all of the pain and suffering Jesus went through for us! We also reflect on our own shortcomings and repent.  Jesus loves us so much that He went through all of the pain and suffering for us!

We then went to the commons to run and play!  We are so thankful for the extra space to run when it is too cold to go outside!

We had a fun time during free choice playing and exploring in Mrs. Stanglein's room

Back in the classroom, we watched a short video about knights and what they do.

During small group time, we played a knight counting game in partners.  This goal of this activity is twofold: to increase our counting skills and number recognition and also to increase our ability to work together to accomplish a goal.  Both skills are extremely important!

We also dictated what we would do if we were a knight.  This gives us another insight to the children's view of and experience with knights and helps us learn how to best extend those views and experiences.

We also learned about the various symbols on a shield!  We worked with Mrs. McAnally to create our own individual shield using the various symbols.

During Jesus time we learned the story of the good Samaritan as found in Luke 10:25-37.  We discussed that sometimes it is hard to love others.  However, Jesus was merciful and reached out to help and save us!  By the power of the Holy Spirit through faith, we can grow in love for our neighbors (those around us).
