Happy Friday!

The bow and arrow making from yesterday continued this morning.

Although it might not seem like it, the children are learning as they work to create the bow and arrows.  They are learning persistence as they have to work again and again to figure out how to get it to work.  They are learning problem solving as they try various methods to get the bow and arrow to work.  They are also learning to think through a problem.

Me: "What will happen if you put the tape there?"
Friend: "Well it might fall off."
Me: "Let's try and see."

Bailee worked to make another flag for our castle.

Castle play

The most important aspect of preschool is children learning about Jesus!! Joey used two blocks to make a cross.  He told me, "Did you know that Jesus rose again on Easter?  He did."

The children were quite invested in their castle play when it was time to head to the commons.  We decided to continue the castle play in the commons as we each had the option to wear a dress or cape to the commons and dance at the castle ball!

Walking back to the classroom, we gave everyone that we saw a royal wave.

During small group time, we worked together to add our blocks (painted paper) to the castle.

We also painted more paper for the castle walls.

We decided that we want a drawbridge and a gate for the entrance to our castle.  We used a measuring tape to measure how big our drawbridge needs to be.  We documented the numbers in our journals.  The children are practicing writing numbers, number recognition, and counting!

During second free choice, our castle play continued to deepen and mature.  The roles that the children assign to one another and take on are becoming more creative.  The children are also using the roles to fill a need in their game.  For example today the children wanted to bring other toys into the castle.  They created a "toy gather-er" role to fill that need.  This is a sign of mature play.

We also measured, cut out, and painted the new drawbridge!

During Jesus time, we reviewed the story of Jesus feeding 5,000 people.  We learned that because of sin in the world, it is sometimes difficult to get the things we need.  However, God richly blesses us with all that we need- daily bread and the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ!
