Today we celebrate Kiera!
We thank God for bringing Kiera into our class!
Happy Birthday Kiera!

During free choice this morning, some of the friends practiced recognizing numbers as they measured each other!

Some friends chose to do a puzzle.  Puzzles increase spatial relationship skills!

Some friends worked hard to write their name, and even names of their friends!

Our friends love to practice their letters! It is a popular choice during free choice time!

Yumm!  Anabelle made cupcakes for us!!

Although it was windy outside, we were able to run and play for a while!

During small group time, we extended the writing in salt activity to include words!   This is hands on activity connects physical actions with the letters.  Connecting letters to movement creates synapses in the brain which help the children remember them.

We also made a collaborative coat like Joseph's from our bible story this week.  We will hang this coat in our classroom to remind us that God forgives us!

The friends then worked with me to make a prayer board for our classroom.  They helped me write the letters for the board, and then they each had the opportunity to write a prayer on a notecard.  Our prayer board is hanging in our classroom. Please feel free to add your prayer requests to it too!

As we made the prayer board, we talked about prayer.  We discussed that you can talk to God anytime.  He is always listening.

During second free choice time, some of the friends again chose to practice their letters.

Other friends worked to build together.  Learning social skills, such as cooperation and positive conflict resolution, is a large part of early childhood education.

It wasn't long before the friends began to play birthday party!  I know we have been playing birthday party for weeks now, but the birthday party play has significantly matured since the beginning of the project.  The roles in the play have elaborated.  There are bakers, clowns, jugglers, friends, birthday kids, and even dogs at the party.  The children are no longer simply making a cake and singing happy birthday. They are now preparing the party by making invitations, cooking food, inviting people to the party, reading a story at the party, etc.  This is one of the goals of our project.  When children engage in deep, mature play, that is when cognitive development occurs.

During Jesus time, we played a good choice/bad choice game.  The children helped identify good and bad choices.  They also reminded me that even though we make bad choices sometimes, Jesus always forgives us!

In the gym, we had fun running and playing together! Gym time not only works our large motor muscles, but it also provides another time to practice social skills!
