We went outside first thing this morning before the rain came in.

When the rain began, we headed back to the classroom for free choice time.

We really enjoyed the extra pattern blocks and new pattern block mats!

Pattern blocks help children develop spatial reasoning (a foundational math skill) and engage in creative thinking.

Practicing the alphabet together

We love playing in the tent!

Exploring in the explore on the floor center

During small group time, we did a splat painting with special brushes.

We also continued exploring and creating in the pattern blocks.

We also predicted what would happen to skittles when we put them in water.  We wrote our predictions and tested to see what happens!  The children then drew a picture of what the noticed.  This activity helps children to not only engage in the scientific process, but think critically about why the skittles dissolve in water.  Learning the word dissolve helps to expand our vocabulary.  Furthermore, we noticed that the S on the skittles floats to the top!

One of the most important things about this experiment is that the children were excited about it and therefore engaged in it.  One of the goals of early childhood education is to foster children's natural curiosity into a love of learning!

During second free choice, Avery had an idea to make a piggy bank with the egg cartons. I encouraged her to think through her plan, and we worked together to write the steps of her plan. We then worked together to put her plan into action!  She engaged in meaningful writing as well as problem solving skills!

Avery then showed Hunter how to make his own piggy bank!

Writing and drawing pictures for our families is another way children engage in meaningful writing practice.

Of course we had to check on the skittles!

Because we were unable to go outside for second outside time, we went to the gym!  We are so thankful for the many spaces we have here at Zion!

During Jesus time we learned that God takes care of us!  Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:25-34 that we do not have to worry because Jesus knows our needs.  He provides for our biggest need- the need for a Savior! Hebrews 13:6 tells us, "The Lord is my helper; I shall not fear."
