It was a creative morning in preschool!

Our friends noticed a few ants coming in from the exterior door.  We discussed that it is typical in the Spring and Summer for ants to try to come indoors.  Mrs. Buchholz and I cleaned up the few ants that had made it into the classroom, but the friends wanted to be sure that they would not come back.  They worked to make traps for the ants!

They started with paper because they could see the ants better on the paper. Then, the paper started moving so they decided to put cars on the paper to weigh it down.

This might seem insignificant, however the children are showing advanced problem solving skills as well as collaboration and cooperation!

What a gorgeous day!

During small group time we did a still life collage of all of the beautiful flowers and plants in our classroom!

We also worked together to create in the blocks.

Did you know that your child can read?  When your child recognized the "golden arches" as McDonald's he/she is exhibiting pre-reading skills!  Such familiar print is called environmental print.  Environmental print is all around us! (On the cereal you eat, the label for various snacks, the logo for various stores, etc.) We played an environmental print go fish game today.  As you drive home with your child, see what signs he/she can read on the way!  I bet you will be surprised!

As we played the game we also worked on a top secret present for our moms!

Writing together

Our dramatic play has elaborated significantly!  The friends are acting out their own scenarios and stories, assigning roles, planning their play, and including many children in the play.

During Jesus time we learned the story of Pentecost.  We learned that when Jesus' body left the earth at Ascension, He promised to send a helper- the Holy Spirit!  Because of the gift of faith through the Holy Spirit we know that we are forgiven children of God.  We will live forever in heaven with Him!

We acted out how we thought the story would look!

Before heading down to the Sonshine center playground, we ran a few lengths in the field.  We set clear physical boundaries for the children so they would be able to run freely yet safely.

  2. It is so good to know about these creative and interactive ways to teach kids in preschool. I am also teaching kids at home with help of ideas listed on website http://www.kidsfront.com/coloring-pages.html and my kids are as smart as any other kid out there attending preschool.
