This morning the friends were very interested in the few ants in the classroom.

(To clarify, there are maybe two or three ants that sneak in through the door.  I explained to the children that it is just something that happens in the spring.  :) )

They friends worked to make traps for the ants.  They also made up many rules regarding the catching of the ants!

Outside time!

During small group time we worked to make a map of our classroom.  This activity helps to promote fine motor skills as well as providing an opportunity for the children to learn how to observe and record their surroundings.

We also distributed the animal signs we made yesterday.  The children discussed where the animals should go in our classroom based on their surroundings in the picture.  This activity promotes reasoning and critical thinking.

We also worked to make various signs for our trail.  The friends were so creative in what the signs should say!  Because they were working to write their own words, they were more motivated!  This is why it is important to engage children in meaningful writing rather than rote writing practice.

During second free choice the friends couldn't wait to create with the new good junk!

(Thank you so much for the good junk!  The children love to create with it!)

As children create with the good junk they are learning valuable cognitive skills. They are learning how to solve a problem they come across.  They are learning how to make a plan for their creation.  They are also learning creativity which in itself promotes cognitive development!

Working together in the blocks

Playing in the outdoor center

During Jesus time, we learned the story of Peter and John healing a crippled man as found in Acts 3:1-10.  We learned that because of sin, our bodies are not perfect.  However, because of Jesus' death and resurrection on the cross, we will be made perfect in heaven!

After Jesus time we went outside to put our bird feeders on the trees for the birds!

While we were out there, we saw a bird and baby birds in a nest!
