We had a great day in preschool today!

As you know, we practice writing our names when we sign in.  I am so impressed at how the children's writing has improved in the short time since school began!

Kiera and Anabelle worked on a puzzle together.  A large part of early childhood education is learning valuable social skills including cooperation, conflict resolution, and making and maintaining friendships.  We also work to instill dispositions including empathy and kindness.

Our friends LOVE to practice the letters on our alphabet chart!   Because we created the alphabet together with the children's pictures, they are able to attach letters to concrete object.  For example:

"D!  That's for Delaney!"

In this way, they are also learning the sounds of the letters!

Some friends chose to play birthday party too!  Hunter made a gift box with the magnetic tiles!

Our friends also really like taking notes on what is happening in the classroom!  This provides a starting point for learning how to write letters and learning the sounds of the letters!

Welcome back Mrs. Buchholz!! We are so happy to have you back!!

We had a lot of fun outside this morning!

While we were outside, we watched the middle schoolers "blast off" the rockets they created!

During second free choice, We had fun playing in Mrs. Mudd's room, and Mrs. Mudd's friends came to our room!  Ms. Lindsay came in with Mrs. Buchholz, and I was able to do some assessments with the children one on one.  Assessments are a valuable aspect of early childhood education.  They show us each child's strengths and areas for growth.  This allows us to design the curriculum around students' needs.

During small group time we explored play doh!  Many of the friends used birthday candles to make a birthday cake.  We extended this interest with dice.  The children rolled a dice, counted how many they rolled, and then put the same number of candles on their cake!  In this activity, the children are working their fine motor skills as well as foundational math skills including counting and one to one correspondence.

We also stamped with egg cartons.  Yesterday, we noticed that the blue and yellow make green.  Some of the children wanted to test and see what blue and red make!  So that's what we did today!  All of the friends were excited to see that it makes purple!

Last week we had many discussion about who was invited to our parties.  Today the children role played with me about various scenarios that could hurt friends feelings.  We discussed that telling a friend, "You aren't invited to my party" is not kind.  The children then were able to use the puppets to talk to one another in a kind way.  We then discussed what it means to be a good friend and acted that out too.

During Jesus time, we extended the story of Abraham and Sarah.  We learned that God blessed them with a son- Isaac!  We learned that God blessed us with our families too!  He also blessed us by sending Jesus, His son, to die on the cross and rise again.  Because of Jesus, we are a part of God's family too!
