Happy Wednesday!

This morning the friends were excited to show each other their birthday party picture.  They had fun telling Joey's mom all about their parties! The children are engaging in their prior knowledge and experiences as they share their stories.  This will help as we build on this knowledge throughout the Project!

(If you have not been able to send in your child's birthday party picture, no problem!  Just send it in whenever you can.  :) )

The children then started playing Birthday Party!  Through their play, the children are making sense of their experiences and asking questions to drive our learning throughout the project.

"How many people can come to the party?"

"Is this table big enough?"

Anabelle made invitations to the party!  Look how she is engaging in meaningful writing practice!

Bailey made birthday cards for her friends!

Some friends worked their spatial relationship skills as they built with the magnetic tiles. Spatial relationship skills are foundational math skill!

We had a lot of fun outside today!

During small group time, we played and roll and jump game to practice counting, quantifying, and one to one correspondence.

As I have said before, success for child is different!  We celebrate each child's individual success in preschool.  In this activity some children are successful as they quantify the dots on the dice.  Some children are successful as they add two dice together.  Some children are successful as they use one to one correspondence when counting.  Other children are some children are successful as they practice using one to one correspondence with help.

We then expressed creativity as we made birthday cards for our friends!

We worked on our class birthday graph today!  We worked to identify/learn in what month the children were born, and we added their cake to the graph.  We sang the months of the year song to figure out where to put each cake.  This helps us learn the months of the year by connecting them to our personal experiences- our birthdays!

Once the graph was complete, we counted the cakes in each row.  We compared the rows to see which had more, which had less, and if there were any rows that were equal.  As we worked together on the graph, we are learning valuable foundational math skills!

The children wanted a turn to lead each other in the months of the year song.  They used one to one correspondence (a valuable foundational math and literacy skill) as they pointed to each month while singing the song.

We then had our second free choice time!  The skills we learn during small groups work to enhance our play! This is a great way for the children to put what they have learned into practice.

Many of the friends worked to build various towers and structures!  As they were building, many of the friends were counting the tiles and blocks.

"I used four blocks to build this ship."

"I need two more.  See- one...two..."

Then, the block play turned into birthday party ice cream!

(You will notice me in the background of many of the pictures.  I often take notes while the children play to see how they put what we have learned into practice, and how I can adjust the curriculum to best meet their needs.)

Victoria made her own birthday hat and belt!  How creative!

Anabelle read a familiar story to the friends!  Retelling familiar stories is a foundational literacy skill!

Riley continued to independently roll, count, and jump during free choice!

During Jesus time we learned the story of Abraham and Sarah found in Genesis 12:1-9.  We learned that God blessed Abraham and Sarah, and God blesses us with everything we need especially the gift of faith and eternal life through Jesus.

Look at all of the fun we had exercising our large motor skills in the gym!
