We had a great day in preschool!
Preschool is fun for everyone!
This morning Kiera's mom stayed a minute to do a puzzle with Kiera.
Some of the friends continued to explore the apples in the science center.
As children explore science, they work to find the answer to a question that they have asked. Science and discovery also give the children confidence that they have the capabilities to learn and discover on their own. Furthermore, children's natural inclination to discover can be a starting point for learning other skills including literacy and language skills.
Many of the friends strengthened their spatial relationship skills with puzzles and pattern blocks this morning. Understanding and exploring spatial relationships is a foundational math skill!
Other friends explored letters with Mrs. Koenig. (Mrs. Buchholz is in Germany for the next two weeks! Mrs. Koenig and Ms. Lindsay will help in our room while she is gone.)
A large part of early childhood education is learning social skills including positive conflict resolution, cooperation, collaboration, and learning to make and maintain friendships! These skills not only impact the children's lives, but they also impact future learning!
We had a lot of fun running and playing in the cool weather this morning!
Back in the classroom, I shared with the children a special birthday party I planned for my son, Levi. I asked the friends if they have ever been to a birthday party. All of the friends were so excited to share their experiences!! We will carry this excitement throughout our Birthday Party Project!
Connecting the Project to children's prior experiences attaches meaning to the Project. It also provides a starting point for learning! To find out more about the Project Approach, click HERE.
After snack, we were able to play in Mrs. Mudd's classroom!! Once a month, the early childhood teachers meet to discuss and collaborate. During this time, extra staff come to assist the children while they play.
During small group time, we were so excited to draw pictures of birthday parties. We will save these pictures to compare with pictures we draw at the end of the Project. I am excited to see how they change!
We explored water during small group time as a part of learning the story of Noah's Ark this week.
We then webbed what we know about birthday parties, and asked questions about birthday parties. We will use the web to see how much we learn throughout the project, and we will use our questions to guide our learning!
During Jesus time, we read the story of Noah and the flood. We learned that although God flooded the world, He made a promise to never do it again. He set a rainbow in the sky to remind us of that promise. We learned that God always keeps His promises! He promised to send a Savior, and He sent Jesus to die on the cross and rise again to save us!
We then went back outside!
