We had another great day in preschool!

In case you haven't had the pleasure of meeting our Tuesday/Thursday aide, this is Mrs. Jenny Buchholz!  We are so thankful to have Mrs. Buchholz in our class on Tuesdays and Thursdays!

This morning the children started the day by playing "eating breakfast."

"You see, we have to eat before the big party today," one of the friends told me.

Some friends used teamwork to build a structure out of blocks!

Victoria created kites,

while Hunter made important phone calls to his friends.

We then went outside to run and play!

Today, we decided to name our collaborative canvas artworks.

We each gave ideas for names for the paintings.

During small group time, we made a graph to help us see which name had more votes and which had less. We used some of our favorite stickers to represent our votes on the graph.

Success in preschool is unique!  In this activity, success for some children is using one to one correspondence to count the number of votes. Success for other children is accurately identifying which line has more and which has less. Success for other children is determining the difference between two of the lines.  Success for other children is identifying how many stickers we need to add (or take away) to make two lines equal.

The children then worked independently to play an environmental print game.   One of the goals of this activity is to build the children's confidence and promote the love of learning.  As they were playing, I heard this discussion:

Child One: "That says Build-A-Bear"
Child Two: "I know.  I can read it."
Child one: "I can read it too!"
Child Two: "Let do some more!"

We then had fun blowing watercolor bubbles onto a canvas.  We will hang this canvas in our classroom!  This activity was also a social activity in that there were only two bubble blowers and the children and to wait to take their turn with the bubble wand.  They problem solved with one another and practiced showing God's love as they shared.

After small groups, it was time for our second free choice time.  Some of the friends continued the game from the morning.  They expanded on the "making breakfast" theme to "playing house and bears."

Anabelle set up her iPad to get some work done.  Look at her creative thinking!

Hunter also made a computer on which he could do his homework.  Creative thinking!

Creative thinking, according to Bloom's Taxonomy, is a higher level thinking skill.  Engaging in creative thinking can promote cognitive development.

Sammie used some of the environmental print as inspiration for writing!

We worked to write the letters for the labels for our artwork.

During Jesus time, we reviewed all that God made with an active song. The children helped me list various things that God created.  We sang a song (and did a dance together) thanking God for making everything!  We thank God most of all for sending Jesus, His son, to die on the cross and rise again to save us from our sins!

We were excited to do some movement songs on the SMART board today during large motor time! So fun!
