Happy Wednesday!

This morning, the children quickly engaged in various activities! They were excited to see each other and play together.  They are developing friendships with each other!  As they develop these friendships, they are learning valuable social skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Joey made towers in the magna tiles.

Some of the other friends explored the spinners together!

Some friends created int he art center!  As they plan and work to create various items, the children are engaging in creative thinking skills which can promote cognitive development.

We went to chapel today!

This year our school has chosen to support the Christian Resource Center in India.  This is a center that helps to spread the Good News of Jesus in a country that is 97% non christian.  Pastor Sam Thompson works at Christian Resource Center and is currently studying at Concordia Seminary. Our offering will go to support the work at the Christian Resource Center as they share Jesus. Namaste!

Remember how excited we were about EXIT signs last week?  We carried that excitement over into our small group time this week too!  We learned that just as we can read the EXIT sign, we can read many other signs!  These signs and pictures that are recognizable are called environmental print.  When children recognize environmental print, they are using and strengthening skills that will help them as they learn to read!

One of the benefits of environmental print is it connect children's experiences with reading.

"I've been to that store!"
"We eat that cereal!"
"I love to go to Pizza Hut!"

Next time you drive by various restaurants, stores, and signs ask your child what that sign says.  You might be surprised how many things that you child can already read!

Today we worked in small groups to read environmental print!

We started working on an art project to remind us that God made everything!  The children worked their fine motor skills to use scissors to cut a circle and then paint it.

The friends who were at school yesterday used texture items to paint green on their earth.  Look for the finished product hanging in the hallway soon!

We also strengthened our fine motor skills by removing the wrappers from straws in the sensory table.

Then it was time for second free choice!

We played birthday party together!  Some of the friends were very excited to set up chairs for the party!

While other friends cooked food for the party.

Some friends made the decorations for the party!

While other friends worked in the block area to make sure all places for the party were decorated and ready.

Riley made a birthday cake for the party!

We all were ready to see the clown show!

Victoria and I were the clowns today.

Then, it was time for a popcorn break!

Will and Delaney put on a show for us next!

We made food for each other!  We worked to share with each other; what a great social skill to learn!

We also made cards for each other!

We then had fun running and playing in the gym!
