Happy Tuesday!

Today the children set up a face painting area as a part of their birthday party play.  The children are extending and deepening their play.  The goal is for the children to engage in this mature play because it promotes cognitive development!

Mr. Debrick, our school Principal, stopped in our room for a visit.  We all loved looking at his fun tie!

Some friends created with the magnetic tiles.  They are exploring spatial relationships!

Other friends set up the birthday party!

Some of the friends played animals together too!

Many of the friends saw their birthday party picture hanging in the classroom.  They told us about their own birthday party!  The goal of this is to engage the children's prior knowledge and experience about birthday parties so that we can assimilate new information.

Pastor Hohener from Chapel of the Cross led our chapel today!  We helped him tell the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000! We learned that just as Jesus provided for the people in the story, He provides for us too!

During small group time, we worked to create our own invitations!  The friends wrote words and engaged in creative thinking for their invitations.  As the children were making invitations, they discussed who they were inviting to their party.  We talked about how we can invite everyone to be a kind friend.  We decided that we will have to explore this more during our project.

We also wrote our name and decorate a cake for our birthday graph.

We worked on our class birthday graph today!  We worked to identify/learn in what month the children were born, and we added their cake to the graph.  We sang the months of the year song to figure out where to put each cake.  This helps us learn the months of the year by connecting them to our personal experiences- our birthdays!

Once the graph was complete, we counted the cakes in each row.  We compared the rows to see which had more, which had less, and if there were any rows that were equal.  As we worked together on the graph, we are learning valuable foundational math skills!

During second free choice, the face painting and birthday party playing continued!

The skills we learn during small groups work to enhance our play! Some children continued to make invitations for the birthday party during free choice.

Other friends worked together to cut wrapping paper for presents for each other!  Look at that teamwork!  The children are learning valuable social skills that will benefit the children throughout their lives!

We then went outside to run and play!
