Happy Monday everyone! I pray that you had a restful weekend this weekend!
This morning it was exciting to see how many of the friends were excited to sign in.
"Look Mrs. Douglas! I did my N all by myself!"
The children are gaining confidence in their writing!
Then the children quickly engaged in playing with each other.
Some of the friends made a picnic!
Will made creations with the magnetic tiles!
Some friends played in the block center. As children play with blocks, they explore spatial relationships, cause and effect, and problem solving strategies.
Sammie took notes this morning! What a great opportunity to engage in meaningful writing!
We then went to play outside!
During morning meeting, I shared with the friends that my birthday is in March. This sparked a discussion about when our birthdays are. Some of the friends know the month, and other friends know the time of year. We decided to make a monthly birthday chart together to help us learn the months of the year, and see if any friends were born in the same month!
During small group time, we had fun making invitations for a birthday party. As the children were making invitations, they discussed who they were inviting to their party. We talked about how we can invite everyone to be a kind friend. We decided that we will have to explore this more during our project.
We also wrote our name and decorate a cake for our birthday graph.
The friends helped write the months for the birthday graph too!
Before second free choice, we planned our play. Planning play, and then reflecting upon play, help the children develop cognitive skills. "Metacognition—higher-level thinking and problem-solving
skills—develop when children are encouraged to reflect, predict, question, and hypothesize" (NAEYC, 2003, p. 1).
Megan, Bryson, and Victoria played dogs attending the birthday party. They planned to be "good and nice" dogs.
Brynne planned to be the birthday girl who "plays while the party sets up."
Bailee and Riley planned to "write words on the party invitations."
Will planned to make towers with the magnetic tiles.
Hunter and Anabelle planned to play "nice animals with the party."
Maddie was our prayer leader today. Prayer leaders also lead us in the invocation before Jesus time! You can practice this at home with your child!
Invocation leader: We begin Jesus time in the name of God the Father
Response: who created us
Invocation leader: God the Son
Response: who died for us
Invocation leader: and God the Holy Spirit
Response: who comforts us
During Jesus time we learned the story of Abraham and Sarah found in Genesis 12:1-9. We learned that God blessed Abraham and Sarah, and God blesses us with everything we need especially the gift of faith and eternal life through Jesus.
We then headed to the gym!
