Happy Monday!!

We work on writing skills each day at school.  One of the ways we work on writing skills is by signing in!

Megan's mom stopped in this morning before dropping Megan off for school.  It's always fun when moms and dads can visit!

Bryson's mom stayed a minute to play in the dramatic play center!

Some friends explored the apples in the science center.  This helps develop discover and inquiry skills.

Other friends worked collaboratively to make a tower.

Zack problem solved to make some ramps in the block center.

We enjoyed the beautiful weather outside today!

Back in the classroom, I shared with the children a special birthday party I planned for my husband.  I asked the friends if they have ever been to a birthday party.  All of the friends were so excited to share their experiences!!  We will carry this excitement throughout our Birthday Party Project!

Connecting the Project to children's prior experiences attaches meaning to the Project.  It also provides a starting point for learning!  To find out more about the Project Approach, click HERE.

During small group time, we were so excited to draw pictures of birthday parties.  We will save these pictures to compare with pictures we draw at the end of the Project.  I am excited to see how they change!

We explored water during small group time as a part of learning the story of Noah's Ark this week.

We then did another collaborative art piece for our classroom.  The first group of friends put tape on the canvas to start the artwork.

The second group colored the canvas with oil pastels.

Then, the third group painted the canvas with liquid watercolors.

Come and check out the finished masterpiece in our classroom!

During the second free choice time, the friends were excited to play birthday party!  We added a few new props to the dramatic play center to extend the play.

One of the goals of preschool is to extend learning through play.  As the children play birthday party, it provides a natural starting point for learning.
"How do we know who gave the gift?"
"Where is the food table?  Can you help me remember it's the food table?"
"Who are you going to invite to the party?"
"What are you going to eat at the party?"

When children are engaged in play and learning activities, they are more meaningful.  Meaningful experiences impact child development and learning.

Some of the friends made a list of people to invite to the party.

Other friends prepared birthday gifts to bring.

Hunter made spiderman plates for the party.  In doing so, he not only problem solved, but he also strengthened his fine motor skills.

We were getting confused as to where to put the food and where to put the presents, so some friends made signs to help us remember.

Many of the friends gathered to open presents, but there was a problem!

We did not know who any of the presents were from!  The friends quickly worked to make tags for their presents.

Will was so excited to give me some LEGOs at the birthday party.

Then, lots of friends brought presents to me!

During Jesus time, we read the story of Noah and the flood.  We learned that although God flooded the world, He made a promise to never do it again.  He set a rainbow in the sky to remind us of that promise.  We learned that God always keeps His promises!  He promised to send a Savior, and He sent Jesus to die on the cross and rise again to save us!

Instead of going to the gym today, we decided to go outside again and enjoy the beautiful weather!
