Happy Friday!
This morning some friends chose to measure their height with birthday cakes! This promotes number recognition, counting, and measuring.
Other friends used the wrapping paper to create and wrap presents for each other!
Yesterday, some of the friends were wondering how to get to each other's houses for the birthday party, and we pulled out some maps! Today, the children were still very much interested in the maps.
We then went outside to run and play. Outdoor play is an important part of our day!
During small group time, the children worked to create their own map of how to get to school from their house. This helps develop a sense of our community.
The children were also really excited to continue beading pipe cleaners for our classroom decorations. Some of the children chose to make a pattern with their beads. This activity promotes sorting, patterning, and develops fine motor skills.
Some children created with the magnetic tiles. I also worked on assessing the children individually. Assessment is an integral part of early childhood education. It allows us to see where each child is performing, and helps us adapt our curriculum to best meet each child's individual needs.
Then it was time for more free choice!
As you know, we are in Phase Two of our birthday party project. The children set up the chairs for the birthday party entertainment today! The shows varied from bull shows, clown shows, to even a car show!
The children began to organize themselves with a sign up sheet.
"If you are at the party and want to watch the show, please sign this sheet!"
Other friends worked on props for the shows and party.
Joey and Will worked hard to build a tall tower with the magnetic tiles!
I noticed this sign on the chair set up for the show. I went to sit there, but one of the friends told me, "No Mrs. Douglas. That chair is only for the show people. See the sign?" The children are showing understanding that print has meaning and the connection between spoken word and written print.
Some of the friends assessed each other during free choice time too! Play is a way for children to make sense of the world!
Then it was show time!
Many of the children engaged in meaningful writing as they took notes about the various shows!
During Jesus time, we sang praise songs to God thanking Him for our many blessings! Our biggest blessing is the gift of salvation through the death and resurrection of Jesus!
We then headed to the gym for more fun! Many of the friends tried to juggle like Mr. M. did in our class a few days ago! They are strengthening their hand-eye coordination!
