Happy Tuesday! I hope that you all had a safe and restful Labor Day weekend!
Our friends got straight to work signing in, creating, and playing!
Because it was so wet outside, we were able to go to the commons to run and play! We had a lot of fun throwing the balls to each other and playing with the hula hoops.
During morning meeting, we read a story about Clifford the Big Red Dog.
We worked to predict what we thought would happen next, and we also discussed how we felt about what happened in the story. We are learning the parts of the book, how to respond to stories, and most importantly we are learning to love reading!
Remember how excited we were about EXIT signs last week? We carried that excitement over into our small group time this week too! We learned that just as we can read the EXIT sign, we can read many other signs! These signs and pictures that are recognizable are called environmental print. When children recognize environmental print, they are using and strengthening skills that will help them as they learn to read!
You can do this with your child too! Next time you drive by various restaurants, stores, and signs ask your child what that sign says. You might be surprised how many things that you child can already read!
We worked in groups to recognize various environmental print!
We also strengthened our fine motor skills by removing the wrappers from straws in the sensory table.
We started working on an art project to remind us that God made everything! The children worked their fine motor skills to use scissors to cut a circle and then paint it.
During our second free choice time, the friends played Birthday Party and Going to School. As they act out various scenarios, the children are working to make sense of their world.
Two cats joined our party today!
Avery decided that we need a cookie jar. She worked to write the words and tape the label to the jar. Great job Avery!
Some of the friends worked to build intricate creations in the block center and with the magna tiles.
During Jesus time we learned that God created all of us! We looked at our family picture wall and saw that all of our families look different! We discussed that no matter how we look, Jesus always loves us! We are His children!
We made the sign of the cross on each other's heads to remind us that we are a child of God, and He loves us very much!!
