Good Afternoon!  We sure had a good day in school today!

This morning many of the friends asked if they could play with the puppets- so we did!

As we played, the friends practiced problem solving social situations together.  This was a great time to develop our social skills!

The children were also really excited to continue beading pipe cleaners for our classroom decorations.  Some of the children chose to make a pattern with their beads.  This activity promotes sorting, patterning, and develops fine motor skills.

As we do everyday, the children practiced writing their name.

We then headed outside.  Outdoor play is an important part of child development!

During small group time, we played a game with Mrs. Buchholz.  The children used spinners to find a number and color, and then they counted out the the number of bears.  This is helping us to develop number recognition, counting, and one to one correspondence!

We continued to pattern with the pipe cleaners and beads. Patterning is a foundational math skill.  As you know, each child is unique and success for each child is also unique.  Success for some children is sorting the beads into colors. (Sorting is a pre-patterning skill.)  Success for other children is copying and extending a pattern.  Success for other children is creating an ABAB pattern.  Success for other children is creating more complex patterns.  We value all success in preschool!

In continuing in the birthday party project, we discussed how to get to our individual homes for the birthday parties.  We worked collaboratively to make a map of things around our school.  This helps to develop awareness of our community and environment!

During second free choice time, many of the friends drew maps on their invitations!

The children asked if I had any real maps they could look at, so I pulled out some maps I have.

There were not enough maps for everyone, so some of the friends problem solved and made their own "Birthday Party Map."

Violet used her map to visit the picture of her birthday party hanging in the classroom!

Some of the friends measured themselves to see how many cakes tall they are!  This helps develop number recognition and counting!

Zack and Bryson made presents with the magnetic tiles!

During Jesus time, we learned that God blessed us with so many gifts, just like He blessed Abraham and Sarah!  The best gift is Jesus!  Jesus died on the cross and rose again to save us from our sins!

We then headed back outside!
