What a great day to be in preschool!!

Today the friends practiced story retelling using the props of the Easter story.  Story retell is a pre-reading skill, but more importantly the Easter story is the story of our salvation!

Shhh...there were spies in our classroom today!  The friends made spy equipment, and snuck around the classroom 'spying' on their teacher.  Great imagination friends! "An important benefit of imaginative play may be it's enhancement of the child's capacity for cognitive flexibility and, ultimately, creativity" (Kaufman, 2012)

Our friends also refined their fine motor skills as they created with play dough!

Mrs. Buchholz took half of the class outside while I worked with half of the class inside today.  This allows for differentiated instruction to meet each student's needs.

During small group time, we learned a new hip hop version of the alphabet!  We also learned some new fun songs to help us remember the sounds that each letter makes!  What a great way to practice such an important pre-reading skill!

We also learned more about the different food groups!

We looked through our play food and sorted the food.
We started by sorting the food into two groups: healthy and unhealthy.  The friends who mastered that skill started sorting the food into the different food groups!

We then worked on our special Easter crosses!  As we added beautiful decorations to our crosses, we talked about how much Jesus loves us to die for us and rise again!  Thank you Jesus!

During Jesus time, we learned about Jesus praying in the garden and His death.  We did not end the story with Jesus death because Jesus did not stay dead!  We learned that all of the suffering and pain that Jesus went through was because He loves us so much!  He died on the cross and rose again to save us from our sins!  Because of Jesus, we can live forever in heaven!
