Happy Monday!  I pray that everyone had a safe and restful weekend!

Our friends were excited to see each other and start learning together!

We love the sensory table!  As you know, the sensory table not only is a great way to explore senses, but it is also an avenue for other learning such as language as the children describe what they feel and converse together.  It is also an avenue for learning foundational math skills including comparing and measuring!

Some friend chose to write in the writing center.  They worked together to sound out words, which is an important pre-reading skill!

Other friends chose to play in the block center.  Exploring in the block area lays a strong foundation for future math learning!

The WIki sticks were quite popular this morning!  What a great way to practice social skills and engage in creative thinking.

During morning meeting, we played a game of Who Stole the Cookie from the Cookie Jar?  This game provides an opportunity to engage in rhythmic language and rhyming which are both valuable pre-reading skills.  Furthermore, this game helps children to use reasoning skills.  ("Well I think Bella has the cookie.  She has her hands behind her back, and we have not called on her yet.")

Within our Food Project, we have learned some food that come from plants.  We learned that plants begin as seeds and grow.  We are now learning that some food comes from milk.  We met Clarabell the cow today!  She told us where milk comes from and some foods that are made out of milk.  Ask your child at home if he/she remembers any food that is made from milk.

We webbed where does food come from during small group time.  We will compare this web with our previous web to see what we have learned.

We then checked on our seeds.  It looks like there are more apple seeds with sprouts than beans.

The children observed that our beans were getting bigger, and they hypothesized why the beans were getting bigger and not sprouting yet.

"Maybe it's too cold by the window."
"Maybe the beans are bad."

We split into groups to compare the two types of seeds.  The two groups then explained to each other what they noticed about their seed/bean.  We switched seeds/beans and did the exploration again.  This helped the children to look for certain qualities and also draw their attention to details they might have missed without the discussion.

We finished our Eric Carle caterpillars today!  They look great!  Come and take a look at them when you get a chance. They are hanging in the hallway by the bathrooms.  :)

During Jesus time we learned about Jesus ascending into Heaven.  We learned that although we cannot see Jesus' body here on earth, He is always with us!  Isaiah 41:10 says, "fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
