Welcome back to school! I hope you had a safe and restful weekend!
This morning we experimented with the ramps. We tested to see if the cars would go faster if we just let them go or if we pushed them down the ramp. We made our predictions and tested them! We decided that the cars go faster when we push them!
The writing center was quite popular this morning! What a great way to engage in meaningful writing practice and practice early literacy concepts such as letter and sound correlation!
There are many stages in the writing process. Writing begins with scribbles and moves to controlled linear scribbles, to letter like forms, to letter strings, to early invented spelling, to invented spelling, to correct spelling!
Claire wrote her Grandma's name all by herself. Great job Claire!
Sammie dressed as Queen Elsa this morning!
Look at all of the creations we made with LEGOs! LEGOs are a great way to express creativity and strengthen fine motor skills.
As we continue our food project, we read a story about food: The Very Hungry Caterpillar!
We learned that the author and illustrator of this book are the same person- Eric Carle! We watched a short video of how Eric Carle makes the illustrations in his books. We learned that he paints on tissue paper and the cuts the illustrations out of the paper.
During small group time, the friends read the story and re-told the story with a SMARTboard game. Re-telling stories is a foundational literacy concept.
We also began the process of making our own illustrations just like Eric Carle. First, we painted a piece of paper green!
We also practiced writing letters and numbers and sounding out words as each friend made a menu by cutting out pictures from magazines and writing how much each dish/food costs. The children are really taking ownership of this writing activity.
"I put oatmeal on my menu because I love oatmeal. It will cost $5 because that is a big bowl!"
"I put orange juice on my menu. It costs $3 because it's so yummy!"
During Jesus time we read the Easter story. We learned that Easter is important because it is when Jesus rose from the dead! Because of Jesus' death and resurrection, we have eternal life forever in heaven! Thank you Jesus!!
