Happy Easter!  Welcome back to school!  I pray that you had a restful Easter weekend with a chance to celebrate our risen Savior!

Our friends were excited to see each other this morning!

It is important for children to read books from an early age.  I know what you might be thinking...my child can't read!  Although the children might not be able to read the words on the page, they are learning important foundational reading concepts such as print orientation, looking for context clues in the pictures, and they are learning that print has meaning.

Many of our friends practiced their balancing skills this morning! Balancing is a skill that helps the children refine and control their large motor muscle group.

Many of the friends explored in the Wiki Sticks this morning too!  These movable sticks not only allow for the friends to engage in creative thinking, but also provides a platform for learning other skills too!

For example, today two friends were working to create the same thing.  This is how their conversation went:

Child 1: "You need (counting pieces of Wiki stick) one, two, three, four, five sticks.  Can you get five sticks?"

Child 2: "Well, I only have (counting the sticks) one, two, three, four sticks.  I need one more."

Child 1: "Well let's ask if someone will share!"

In this example, the friends are not only practicing counting and one to one correspondence, but they are also practicing problem solving, cooperation, and social skills.

Some friends also worked together in the writing center to help each other make hearts!  Great teamwork!

Look at all of our LEGO creations!

As a part of our Food Project, we are investigating where food comes from.   We know that some food comes from plants, but we had some questions as to how fruit grows on trees.  We investigated this concept further today as we cut open an apple to investigate the seeds. We learned that plants, even apple trees, begin as seeds.  We expanded our vocabulary as we described the various properties of the seeds. We also had a yummy apple treat after we investigated the seeds!

Some of the friends expressed that they would like to plant the apple seeds, so we set them aside to try and plant them.

We then had to work together to solve a BIG problem!  All of the bean seeds were mixed together!  We had to work as a team to sort the bean seeds by different properties.  As a team, the children had to decide how to sort the beans, which cup to put which beans in, and cheer each other on as they work.  By the end of the sorting, the friends were saying things like, "Come on team!  We can do this!"

This activity helps to promote collaboration and a positive learning community.

Some of our friends then worked on completing their Eric Carle artwork.

The friends who had completed their artwork started working on their own nursery rhyme based on Mary had a Little Lamb.  The children each wrote "_______(insert child's name) had a little _______(insert animal of child's choice."  This activity not only promotes writing skills, but also helps children to engage in rhythm and rhyme- both which are foundational literacy skills.

We celebrate each child's unique success in preschool.
It is success for some of our friends to write and sound out all of the words independently.
It is success for some of the friends to write the words and sound out some words with help.
It is success for some friends to write the words.
It is success for some friends to write their name.

The children illustrated their rhyme, and we read them together.  We decided that we should turn them into a class book!

During Jesus time, we learned the story of the women finding Jesus' tomb empty.  We learned that they ran to tell others the good news that Jesus is alive!  We each then thought of a person that we could tell that Jesus is alive!  Thank you Jesus for the gift of salvation through Your death and resurrection!
