Yesterday we started sending home the Favorite Book Bag. Throughout the year, your child will have an opportunity to share his/her favorite book with our class when he/she receives the favorite book bag. I encourage you to choose one of your child’s favorite books, and read the book with your child at home.  Then, complete the sheet included in the favorite book bag and return the bag, book, and completed sheet to school.  (There also is a classroom book in the bag for you to read with your child.  Please return this book with the bag as well.)   We will read your child’s book in class, and your child will be able to share with the class why he/she loves the book.  The book will be returned to you after we read it in class.

This activity is one way to encourage the love of reading.  Also, this activity allows the children (and teacher) to be introduced to new books! Furthermore, it helps to continue to build home and school connections!

We worked together to make more obstacle courses and roads!

We also LOVE dancing together!

The children played the game that they created yesterday with the wheel.  They created rules for the game; this shows that they are learning self-regulation.  The children took turns being the "roller."  They resolved conflicts independently and in a positive way.

The game became so intricate in fact that Sammie began keeping score.  She made X marks when Devereux and JJ 'scored' and 's when Jack and Andrew 'scored.'

Today we predicted what would be under the hood of a car.

"When we make predictions, we form ideas about the future based on what we’ve already seen or done. Preschool children are beginning to notice patterns, sequences, and connections that help them guess what to expect from the world around them. Prediction skills are important in literacy, math, science, and social development."  (www.illinoisearlylearning.org)

I wrote down the children's predictions, lifted the hood, and we looked inside!  As we were investigating the inside, we discussed if our predictions were accurate. We concluded that our predictions were pretty accurate! The children drew pictures of what they saw on the inside.

We noticed that we could see the parts of the engine through the grill!

Bella noticed that if you look up from under the car, you can see the parts too!

OUr investigation of the inside of the car brought questions about the license plate.  We wrote down our questions about the license plate;  we will discover more about license plates throughout our project!

We then came inside and wondered where we could learn more about cars.  Here are a few of the things we came up with:

"Books!"
"We could ask a teacher!"
"We could ask mom and dad."
"We could look at cars."
"The computer-we could look there!"

The children are learning research skills.  As you know, learning how to research an topic is a skill that will benefit the children throughout their lives!

We researched cars today by looking through this book together. As we looked through the book together, we were curious about more car information such as:
"What is a crash dummy?"
"What is an air bag?"
"Why does the race car not have a grill on the front?"

Developing new concepts or ideas is an active process that begins with children's inquiries.
Investigating answers to these questions will not only help us to learn how to find answers to our questions (learn), but also foster a love of learning!

During Jesus time today, we read the story of Noah and the flood.  We learned that God promised to never flood the whole earth again.  We also learned that God keeps His promises!  Each time we see a rainbow we can remember that important fact: God keeps His promises!

If you would like to read the story of Noah at home, it can be found in Genesis chapter 6 through Genesis chapter 9.
