Mark your calendars!  On Friday, October 11th Zion will have our annual trunk or treat.  This is a great fun way for us to gather as a community of Zion, dress up, and eat some candy.  :)  If you have questions about trunk or treat, please let me know.

What a wonderful Wednesday!!

This morning we had fun exploring some new manipulatives.

Tangrams provide many learning opportunities including spatial relationships, patterning, and fine motor growth.

The writing center provides opportunities for meaningful writing experiences.  Meaningful writing opportunities help children become skilled and enthusiastic writers.

A name is something that is personal and meaningful to the children; therefore writing their name is a meaningful writing experience.

We can read!

Social skills, social skills, oh those important social skills!

In preschool we have so many opportunities to learn social skills.  It is important for children to learn social skills because the absence of positive social interactions in childhood is linked to negative consequences later in life, such as withdrawal, loneliness, depression, and feelings of anxiety. In addition, low acceptance by peers in the early years is a predictor of grade retention, school dropout, and mental health and behavior problems (Ladd 1999).

We went to chapel today! Mr. Marolf talked to us about Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."  We learned that Jesus is like Superman, but way better!  Jesus is super strong.  He died on the cross and rose again to save us from our sins!

We had a great opportunity to investigate mixing colors today.  The children stamped with cereal boxes and an egg carton.  They mixed two colors together as they stamped.  We predicted what would happen to the colors!  The children had fun stamping and mixing the paint.

This activity is also a great way to put our social skills into action!  There were only three items to stamp, so the children had to practice sharing, asking for a turn, and being patient with one another.

We also created our own license plate today.  We practiced recognizing numbers and letters as we observed the license plates.  We practiced writing numbers and letters as we created our own license plates!

Clair brought her favorite book back for us to read together!

Brian did too!
