There are many fun things coming up in the next few weeks!

October 11th Trunk or Treat

October 16th and 17th Picture Retake Day

October 17th (evening) and October 18th (morning and afternoon) Parent Teacher Conferences

October 19 Bobcat Shuffle 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run

October 23 – 25 LEA Convocation – No School

We started the day at the reception area for our car shop.  The children practiced writing as they checked each other in for the car shop.  They also used various car vocabulary as they were playing.  Here is a snip of a few of the conversations today.

Friend One: "Hello!  I need my car fixed."
Friend Two: "What would you like fixed?"
Friend One: "The muffler is broken."
Friend Two: "Ok.  We can fix that right away."

Friend One: "I need my block fixed."
Friend Two: "Sorry, we only fix cars in this shop."
Friend One: "Oh...can you fix my car?"
Friend Two: "Is it the wheel?"
Friend One: "Yes."
Friend Two: "(To the side) We need a wheel pumper over here.  (To Friend One) We will call you when your car is ready."

Look how intricate our roads and ramps are becoming!

"Kids who play with blocks perform better on divergent problems. They also show more creativity in their attempts to solve problems. (Pepler and Ross, 1981)

We love to read!

During small group time, we discussed how it is hard to tell the two areas of our car shop apart because we are still working on creating them.  We decided that it might be best to make signs for each section-so we did!  We practiced writing letters in a child initiated and meaningful way.

We then reviewed some of the video tour of a car shop.  The friends noticed that there were LEGOs and books in the waiting room in the video.  So we added LEGOs and books in the waiting room for our car shop!

We then explored what happens when we mix finger paint and baby powder.

When your child recognizes different signs and labels, they are reading environmental print!  Because children have a concrete connection to environmental print, ("I've been to Mc Donald's before!" "Oh I love to go to Target!" "Frosted flakes- that's my favorite cereal!" etc.) it bridges the gap between the functional print of school and the print outside.

We practiced reading with an environmental print go fish game.  This not only lays the foundation for future learning, but also builds the children's confidence that they are successful readers!

During Jesus time, we learned the story of Sarah and Abraham.  We learned that God always hears our prayers.  He not only hears our prayers, but He also answers them!  Sometimes He says yes, sometimes He says no, and sometimes He says wait.  Our God is so powerful He can hear our prayers even if we don't say them out loud!  We sang "Jesus Listens when I Pray" to help remind us that God always listens to our prayers!
