Happy Monday!  We had a fun and busy day in school!

Check out what we did today!

We worked those find motor skills as we practiced writing our names.

We practiced writing notes to our friends too!

Blake figured out how to weigh the cars using rubber bands.  Great thinking Blake!

Play dough fun!

We went outside and watched the 8th graders shoot off their rockets!  We loved counting backwards and seeing how high they flew!

We played outside together.  While we played outside with Ms. Lindsey, I worked one on one with the children with some assessments.  Assessments are an important part of early childhood education; they allow us to see where each child is functioning and how we can best help each child to learn and grow!

Today, we were creative with cups, glue, and tissue paper.

The children were not given a direction, but allowed to explore and create with the materials provided.

In the early childhood years, we provide many opportunities for creative thinking.  Creative thinking is a higher level thinking skill that promotes cognitive development.

We wrote in our own journals too!  The journals are a great way to encourage writing because the children take ownership of their journal.  It also provides documentation for writing growth!

While writing in her journal, Megan used her fine motor skills to click all the markers together.  This is a creative way to strengthen those fine motor skills!

We read together in the I CAN READ center, and created more in the writing center.

We explored license plates today!  (Remember our questions from last week about license plates?)

We noticed that the license plates had numbers and letters on them.  We practiced recognizing numbers and letters as we read each license plate.

We then made different 'piles' with the license plates.  We made a pile for the ones with a bird, the black ones, the ones with green writing, etc.  The children are sorting by multiple properties!  Sorting is a foundational math skill!

During Jesus time, we learned the story of the Tower of Babel.  We learned that sometimes when we make bad choices, there is a consequence. However, no matter the choice we make or the consequence, we know that God always forgives us!!

Blake returned the favorite book bag today, and he read his favorite book to us.  Great job Blake!
