Happy Monday!

Today we start sending home the Favorite Book Bag. Throughout the year, your child will have an opportunity to share his/her favorite book with our class when he/she receives the favorite book bag. I encourage you to choose one of your child’s favorite books, and read the book with your child at home.  Then, complete the sheet included in the favorite book bag and return the bag, book, and completed sheet to school.  (There also is a classroom book in the bag for you to read with your child.  Please return this book with the bag as well.)   We will read your child’s book in class, and your child will be able to share with the class why he/she loves the book.  The book will be returned to you after we read it in class.
This activity is one way to encourage the love of reading.  Also, this activity allows the children (and teacher) to be introduced to new books! Furthermore, it helps to continue to build home and school connections!

This morning we moved our classroom around. We were having troubles having enough space to build in the block center, so we problem solved what we could do to so we would have more room.  We decided to move the block shelf, and switch the writing center and dramatic play center.  Allowing children to participate in classroom decisions helps children to take ownership of the classroom!  When children take ownership of a classroom, they feel more comfortable.  When they feel more comfortable, they are more apt to take educational risks which provide further learning opportunities.  The children were big helpers safely carrying and moving the items in the room as well!

We also created with each other this morning.  As you probably know by know, creative thinking is a higher level thinking skill and can lead to further cognitive development.

Jack, Devereux, Andrew, and Ethan invented a game with the wheel.  They made rules to their game.  As children create games with rules, they are learning self-regulation!

We also used the wood pieces to create!

JJ used the wood pieces to make a curvy road!

Bella and Blake made a race track with the wood pieces.

We heard some noise outside, and noticed that the parking lot next to the school was having some work done.  We investigated it through the window.

We then went outside for a closer look.  The Lord provided a perfect opportunity for us to see how a road is fixed!  This fits in perfectly with out car project! We took clipboards with us outside and we did an observational drawing of the construction on the parking lot.  As children do an observational drawing, they are creating a representation of collected information which is a life long skill.

During Jesus time today, we read the story of Noah and the flood.  We learned that God promised to never flood the whole earth again.  We also learned that God keeps His promises!  Each time we see a rainbow we can remember that important fact: God keeps His promises!

If you would like to read the story of Noah at home, it can be found in Genesis chapter 6 through Genesis chapter 9.
