There are many fun things coming up in the next few weeks!

October 11th Trunk or Treat

October 16th and 17th Picture Retake Day

October 17th (evening) and October 18th (morning and afternoon) Parent Teacher Conferences

October 19 Bobcat Shuffle 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run

October 23 – 25 LEA Convocation – No School

We started the day at the reception area for our car shop.  The children practiced writing as they checked each other in for the car shop.  They also used various car vocabulary as they were playing.  Here is a snip of a few of the conversations today.

"Excuse me ma'am.  Can you fix my car?  It ran out of oil."
"Out of oil?  We can fix that!"

"I need a new tire.  Mine is broken."
"I'm sorry to tell you that we can't fix your car.  All of the fixers are gone."

This center not only encourages cooperative imaginary play, but also provides an opportunity for meaningful writing as the children 'check' each other in.

These cars are being fixed in the shop.

"Kids who play with blocks perform better on divergent problems. They also show more creativity in their attempts to solve problems. (Pepler and Ross, 1981)

During small group time, we discussed what we still need to create our car shop.  Some of the friends suggested that we make a sign for the door.  We worked together to sound out and write the words.

We decided that our waiting room needed a place to sit, so we put bean bags in the waiting room!

We then explored what happens when we mix finger paint and baby powder.

During the second small group time, we all walked into the fixing room.  I asked the friends if there was enough room for all of us.  "No!" they replied.  We brainstormed what we could do so that there was enough room for everyone.  Here were our ideas:

"Make it bigger!"
"Maybe only some friends could play in the fixing room."

We decided that only some friends could play in the fixing room.  We voted on how many friends should be in there at a time- 3 or 4.  (3 was the decision.)

I wondered out loud how we could remember that only 3 friends are allowed in the fixing room.

"Maybe we could like make a number."
"Yeah! Like a sign!"

So we did!

We worked together to sound out and write the words for our sign.

We then painted with baby oil.  The friends noticed that it looks wet.  They then requested to put baby powder on top of the oil to see what would happen.  Fostering children's curiosity helps to develop life long learning skills!

During Jesus time, we learned the story of Sarah and Abraham.  We learned that God always hears our prayers.  He not only hears our prayers, but He also answers them!  Sometimes He says yes, sometimes He says no, and sometimes He says wait.  Our God is so powerful He can hear our prayers even if we don't say them out loud!  We sang "Jesus Listens when I Pray" to help remind us that God always listens to our prayers!
