There are many fun things coming up in the next few weeks!

October 16th and 17th Picture Retake Day

October 17th (evening) and October 18th (morning and afternoon) Parent Teacher Conferences

October 19 Bobcat Shuffle 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run

October 23 – 25 LEA Convocation – No School

In school today we continued to work on our cutting skills as we cut our color explorations artwork and glued it to the cross.  We will hang this cross in our classroom to remind us that Jesus loves us so much that He died on the cross and rose again to save us!

We practiced writing our names today too!

The friends requested a dance party this morning, so we turned on some music and danced together!

We than took a video tour of a car shop.  (On Friday we decided to turn our kitchen center into a car shop.)  During the video, we wrote down things that we need to make our own car shop.

The first small group went to ask Ms. Derrington in Parents Day Out if she would like to borrow our kitchen items for her classroom.  What a way to show God's love!

We then came back to the classroom and discussed what we need to make first for the car shop.  The friends remembered that the first thing that we saw on the video tour was the shop sign.  So we worked on drawing cars for the shop sign.

We then sounded out the words "Welcome to the Car Shop" together.  The friends in the first small group took turns practicing writing their letters as they wrote the words for the sign.

When your child recognizes different signs and labels, they are reading environmental print!  Because children have a concrete connection to environmental print, ("I've been to Mc Donald's before!" "Oh I love to go to Target!" "Frosted flakes- that's my favorite cereal!" etc.) it bridges the gap between the functional print of school and the print outside.

We practiced reading with an environmental print go fish game.  This not only lays the foundation for future learning, but also builds the children's confidence that they are successful readers!

The second small group of friends worked together to take some of the kitchen pieces to Ms. Derrington.  The friends created a chant that sounded like this:
"What are we going to do?"
"TEAMWORK"

We continued to chant that as we took the pieces to Ms. Derrington.  This activity provided an opportunity for the friends to practice communication skills and cooperation.

As we were beginning to take the other pieces of the kitchen to Ms. Derrington, one of the friends noticed that we could use them as toolboxes in the car shop.  "Like the red toolboxes we saw in the car shop!"

We decided that we should probably make labels for the toolboxes so that no one is confused.  The children each took turns writing letters for the labels.

We then played the environmental print go fish game too!

During Jesus time, we learned the story of Sarah and Abraham.  We learned that God always hears our prayers.  He not only hears our prayers, but He also answers them!  Sometimes He says yes, sometimes He says no, and sometimes He says wait.  Our God is so powerful He can hear our prayers even if we don't say them out loud!  We sang "Jesus Listens when I Pray" to help remind us that God always listens to our prayers!
