It's a great day to be in preschool!!

We worked those fine motor skills working with LEGOs this morning!  As you know by now, fine motor strength and control is important for small tasks such as writing.

(LEGOs are also a great way to explore spatial relationships and express creativity!)

We also worked our fine motor skills as we cut with scissors.

If your child is not gripping scissors correctly yet-don't worry!  Correct scissor grip will come with time and practice!  :)

We made different structures in the block center.  We created towers, obstacle courses for the cars, and roads for the cars!  Block play lays the foundation for further math learning.

As we were creating in the blocks, we discovered that some places might not be safe for us to create because we don't want to hurt anyone else.  We decided to make construction sites for our roads and creations to keep everyone safe.

Encouraging children's ideas and thought processes not only allows them to build self-confidence, but it also provides an opportunity for the children to take ownership of and become engaged in their learning. When children are engaged in their learning, they are excited, curious, and it makes the learning experience more meaningful to them.  Furthermore, children are able to retain more information about a topic when they are engaged in their learning!

We also sorted with the counting bears.  Sorting objects helps children begin to observe how things are alike and different.  Sorting is also a foundational math skill!

Avery sorted the beads!

We went outside to observe the similarities and differences between the cars we saw.  Ask your child what he/she noticed that was the same and what he/she noticed that was different! Noticing differences and grouping them is sorting, and sorting is a foundational math skill!

Here is a sneak peek of our conversation:

"Well, all of the cars have four wheels!"
"They are different colors!"
"Some of them have the same red sticker [the Zion sticker] on the back."
"There are four while cars."
"They all have windshields!"
"They all have windows."

We were safe and held hands in the parking lot!

We then came back to the classroom and sorted pictures of cars.

We noticed that there were cars, trucks, and van pictures.  We sorted then by type of car.  THEN we noticed that some of the cars were the same color, so we sorted them by color!

During Jesus time, we learned the story of Adam and Eve.  We learned that they made a bad choice and did not listen to God.  We learned that sometimes we all make bad choices, but Jesus always forgives us!

We illustrated Jesus forgiving us by drawing a heart.  We named some bad choices that made our heart 'dirty.'

We then erased the bad choices.  You can't even tell they were there!  That's exactly like Jesus' forgiveness.  He washes all of our bad choices away.  We learned that Jesus is our Savior; He saved us from our bad choices when he died and rose again.  We shouted "JESUS IS MY SAVIOR!"
