Today was a very special day; we celebrated Brynne's birthday!  Happy birthday Brynne!

Our check-in area of the car shop is becoming increasingly more popular.  This area provides the opportunity to practice writing skills in a natural and child-initiated way.

Look at Avery's creative structure!

Megan chose to practice recognizing her letters this morning.  At school when we talk about the letters, we always discuss a physical object associated with the letter too.  (A-A-Apple)  This helps children to associate the letter with a concrete object and helps the children learn the sounds of the letter.

You can practice this at home with your children too!

Our spatial relationship skills grow as we play puzzles and tangrams. This lays a strong foundation for future math learning.

As you know by now, social skills are a large part of early childhood education.

Social skills play a vital role in children’s emotional health and well-being. Research has documented that children with poor social skills are at risk for difficulties including peer rejection, behavior problems, and poor academic achievement (Gilliam & Shahar, 2006).

Today we did some role playing with the puppets. Role playing with children is a great way to learn social skills in a nonthreatening way.

We practiced not taking toys away from our friends, but asking,
"Can I have a turn?"  and
"How many minutes until my turn?"

We then practiced telling the puppet,
"You can have a turn when I'm done," and
"___ minutes until your turn."

This is a great way to practice social skills with your children at home too!

We went to chapel where Andrew, the Director of Christian Education at Chapel of the Cross Lutheran in St. Peters, MO led us in worship!  He read to us from the bible the story of Fishers of Men.  (Matthew 4:18-22) The men in the story immediately listened to God. We played a fun "Andrew says" game which was just like Simon says.  We then learned that just like we listened to Andrew in the game, and just like the men in the story listened to Jesus, we should listen to God!

We had fun playing together outside today.  As the friends were playing outside, I pulled a few children in to work on assessments.  Assessments are important because they allow me to see the children's strengths and how to best help learn and grow throughout the year.

Brynne also had the Favorite Book Bag today.  Thanks for sharing your book Brynne!
