I can't believe it's already December! It is wonderful to watch your children learn and grow daily. We will have another fantastic week this week!
This week we will finish our study of spiders. We will make a spider web, dictate what we know about spiders, and review all of the work we have done about spiders so far. As the children make a spider web they are expressing creativity and refining their fine motor skills. We will complete our Phase Three web to compare with the Phase One and Two webs. We will look at all of our hard work to celebrate all we have learned thus far.
We will exercise foundational math skills as we practice recognizing numbers through our Little Mouse Little Mouse game. We will continue to practice foundational math skills as we play a Christmas tree ornament game. Each child will have an ornament with a number on it. The children will practice one to one correspondence, counting, and number to quantity match as they count out the correct number shown on the ornament. We will practice patterns again this week too! Patterning, again, is a foundational math skill. We will also play a fun snowman game on the SMARTboard which will help the children practicing counting as well.
We will practicing matching upper and lower case letters as we play a go fish game together. We will also continue to practice writing in our journals. This will help the children develop as readers and writers.
We will continue to work on various Christmas art projects including our painted Christmas tree, a paper strip tree, and a class mural of the nativity scene. The children will express creativity, practice fine motor skills, and have fun through these art projects! We will also continue to have the free choice center open daily.
During Jesus time this week, we will learn about Jesus' birth in a stable in Bethlehem. We will learn that Jesus came to save us! He loves us! We will practice our song for the Christmas program as well.
Don't forget about the Christmas Service here at Zion in the Sanctuary on December 9th at 4:00. Our class will participate in the program. Please drop your child off by 3:45 in the church basement. There will be many people there, so I would encourage you to come early to get good seats. Preschool families will be asked to bring 1 dozen cookies for the cookie reception following the service. (peanut free of course) If you have further questions, please let me know!
Looking Ahead:
- Tuesday, December 4th P.E.
- Tuesday, December 4th Chapel at 9:15
Each year at Christmas, Zion students and families participate in a project to serve their neighbors near and far. This year, our classroom has chosen to support one of our own Zion families- a former Parents Day Out student, Drew, was diagnosed with cancer in August. We have been praying for Drew since the beginning of the school year and we would like to show that "Zion is family" by supporting this family during this difficult time.
Each class has signed up for items to provide. Our class will be collecting books (coloring, board books, etc.) for Drew. Drew loves the Cars movie and enjoys any books that are related to this movie.

Drew's mom said, "We talk about Zion nearly every day, from him asking to go to school to us dreaming of him being there."
She hasn't worked since his diagnosis, and Drew's dad has been working as he can. In addition to welcoming a new baby, their treatment schedule has been pretty intense:
Currently: Drew just started his fifth round of chemo.
December 31: Surgery to remove the tumor
February: Chemo
March: Bone marrow transplant
April: 30 days of radiation (Drew will be sedated each day.)
May: Begin immunotherapy (which requires a week-long stay in the hospital each month for 5 months).
"After that, we hold our breath for 5 years and pray it leaves us alone."
Drew is dealing with a lot of side effects, such as some hearing loss and knee braces. Please pray for healing for Drew and strength for his family.
Let's collect items until the 20th. Thank you for all of your help!!!!!!!!!
