We had a great wintry day in school!

Check out what we did today!

Don't forget the school ends at 12:00 tomorrow, and there is no after care. There is no hot lunch program, so all children will need a lunch from home. Merry Christmas! 

We started the day practicing our positional words as we played The Gingerbread Man game.  Positional words help the children to learn more about their world!










We then played a gingerbread bingo game!  Each piece had a letter on it.  I said the sound of the letter, and the children put a marker on the corresponding letter.  They did a great job! They are developing as readers and writers!










During Jesus time, we reviewed the story of Jesus' birth.  We talked about the gifts that the wisemen brought to Jesus.  They knew that Jesus was born to die and rise again to save us from our sins! 




We had fun investigating the changing weather throughout the day.  As the children investigate the weather, they are learning inquiry skills and discovering the world around them! 


We added three new words to our word wall.  Some of the children wrote the words during center time! 





We worked together to build a big wall.  We guessed how high we could stack the blocks before they fell down.  We could only make it to seven.  One child said, "Seven!  That's more than we did the last time!"  (We had done six the last time.)  The children are learning numbers and their quantities.  They are also learning to compare the numbers! 


We enjoyed rolling various items around the room, so we capitalized on this interest...




I asked each child to pick one item to test to see how far it would roll. We each took a turn rolling our items and put our name tags next to where our item landed. Allowing the children to take an active role in their learning provides an opportunity for genuine learning.  As we know, children learn beat through personal hands on experiences such as the experiment today! 

























We then measured how far our items rolled by counting how many steps away it was from the starting line.  The children practiced using non-standard units of measurement, one to one correspondence, counting, and number comparison.  We each said how far our item went and compared the numbers.
