Happy Monday!  I hope everyone had a great and restful weekend!

We had fun day in school today!  Check out what we did!

Don't forget that Friday, December 21st school ends at 12:00.  We will have no hot lunch program on that day, so please be sure to pack a lunch for your child.  Also, there is no after care on Friday.

We started the day checking our knowledge of positional words as we read a variation of the story The Gingerbread Man. Positional words help the children to explore and understand their world.

Some of the children wanted to practice reading the cards! Showing an interest in reading is an early reading skill. We are developing as readers!

We also worked on our tangrams today.  The children practiced finding trapezoids and rhombuses.

They worked hard to create their own shapes too! We are developing spatial relationships.

We played various games on the SMARTboard.  We practiced matching, ordering, number recognition  counting, and one to one correspondence.  The children LOVE to learn by using the SMARTboard.

Of course we opened the Free Choice center today.  Thank you for all of your many donations to help make our Free Choice center great!

The children enjoyed making credit cards and credit card holders.  Watch out parents; they were ready to spend money!  :)

The children are doing such a great job retelling the story of Jesus' birth on their own.  One student said today, "Jesus was born to save us from our sins." That is the Gospel in a nutshell!

Devereux loved exploring the letters at the light table.  The children are doing really well identifying various letters and even some of their sounds!

A large part of preschool is learning social skills.  Daily, we practice positive conflict resolution, problem solving, and speaking to one another using kind words.  The children have developed strong bonds with each other!  I love to see them work together.

Look how blessed we are in preschool! All of the children, without being asked, took a baby wipe and began to wipe down the tables because the glue we were using was all over the table.  I told them how proud I am that they are showing God's love!

During Jesus time, we used the SMARTboard to help retell the story of Jesus' birth.  We learned about the gifts that the wisemen brought to Jesus.  One gift was a burial spice because the wisemen knew that Jesus came to die and rise again to save us from our sins!

We also lit a third candle on our advent wreath.  The pink candle-the candle of joy!

We helped Ms. Limback, one of the kindergarten teachers here at Zion, by singing a short line for a video they were making.  Our class did a great job!

We added two more words to our word wall.  We practiced critical thinking skills as we guessed what the words were.  We practiced identifying letters as we helped spell the word together!

We all laughed at the silly faces Mrs. Douglas makes when we guess the word correctly!
