What a great Wednesday!

During free choice, many of the friends chose to play in the car shop.  Free play is an integral part of early childhood education. "Research provides more and more evidence of the positive effects that well-developed play has on various areas of child development, such as children’s social skills, emerging mathematical ability, mastery of early literacy concepts, and self-regulation."  (www.naeyc.org)
NAEYC is the National Association for the Education of Young Children and a great resource for parents and teachers alike!

Our friends wanted to have a dance party this morning.  We loved showing off our cool moves!

We read many times together throughout the day.  Even though your child might not be able to read the words in the book, he/she is learning valuable concepts of print including print orientation, where to find the title, learning that print carries meaning, and much more!

We played a fun rhyming game together today too!  Rhyming helps to build a strong foundation for future reading as it increases phonological awareness.

Don't worry if your child makes up words to rhyme; that's part of the fun!  The important thing is that they understand that the words end the same.  (Orange does rhyme with borange, even if borange is not real a word. :) )

Today we went to chapel.  Mrs. Kuhlmann played a fun guessing game with us.  We learned about three men, Noah, David, and Jonah, who trusted in God.  We learned that like those three men, we can trust in God too!

As we played outside today, I worked with the children one on one to complete our Fall assessments.  Assessments are important because they allow us to see how we can best help each child.  Assessments also provide a record of each students' growth!
