Happy Wednesday!

Reading is important for preschoolers!  I know you might be thinking, "My child can't read yet!"

Well, your child might not be able to read the words on the page, but your child is learning valuable pre-reading skills including print orientation, context clues (using the illustrations), and learning to love books!

Look at our writing practice!  Even if your child is scribbling or writing letter-like forms to convey meaning, he/she understands that print carries meaning which, again, is a valuable pre-reading and writing skill!

Today we saw a return of the Wheelie game that our friends created!

A preschool daily schedule helps lays the foundation for telling time in the future.  We started using the pink circle on our daily schedule to help us as we progress throughout the school day. As the 'time' changes in preschool, one of our friends will move the circle to the current 'time.'

Today we used cotton balls to paint!  We expanded our vocabulary as we described how the cotton ball felt when it was wet, and then we described it again after we were done painting.

We then did an experiment to see how far our cars would go after a ride on a large tube ramp.  We first took our clipboards, like all scientists, and wrote our names on our paper.  We then wrote our estimations of how many steps our car would go.  (We are practicing meaningful writing too!)

Then we tested our predictions!  We counted backwards from ten to 'blastoff' each car down the ramp. (Counting backwards will help the children learn subtraction skills.)   We then counted how far our cars went in steps.  This activity helped us practice one to one correspondence!  After we counted, we wrote the number on our paper.

We discussed how when we looked at all of the numbers I wrote down of how far each car went, it was hard to tell which on went the farthest.  I then pulled out a graph, and we filled in the graph together.  The friends helped me count how many boxes to fill.  (Again, practicing one to one correspondence and meaningful counting.)

We discussed how it is so much easier to see which has more and which has less on a graph.

We also discussed that it doesn't matter how far our cars went, God loves us all the same!  :)

During Jesus time, we reviewed the story of Moses.  We learned that just as God had a plan for Moses, He also has a plan for us!  He went Jesus to die and rise again to save us from our sins!  What a great plan for us!  This story fits in perfectly with our school theme verse this year, Jeremiah 29:11.  We sang our school theme song to help us remember that God has a great plan for us in heaven!
