Welcome to Mrs. Douglas Full Day Preschool Class at Zion Lutheran School!

What a great day for new play dough!  So much learning happens at the play dough table!  We gain fine motor control when we play with play dough.  We express creativity when we play with play dough, and we even practice letter recognition as we use the letter stamps in the dough. 

Of course we played in the car shop together!  

As you know, the car shop provides a great opportunity for meaningful writing, to practice social skills, and it's fun!

The writing center is another way to encourage meaningful writing.  It also provides a child-initiated entry point for learning how to form letters and sounding out words.

We worked together in the block center to create roads for our cars.  Block play lays the foundation for future math learning.

We started our small group time by sorting all of the good junk that has been donated.  (THANK YOU!)  Sorting is also a foundational math skill.  

We then used the good junk to begin the process of creating model cars.  (We will continue to work on the model cars throughout the week and next week.) Through this activity, the children are engaging in creative thinking.  Because creative thinking is a higher level thinking skill it leads to further cognitive development.  

Each child set up the car as they wanted, and took turns carefully walking over to me.  I glued the pieces where they asked me to with a hot glue gun. 

"Mrs. Douglas- we don't have guns at school!" a concerned friend told me.

We discussed how the glue gun is more of a glue holder than a gun.

"Well, then we should say hot glue holder," said the concerned friend.  

So we did! :) 

 (We discussed that no one should go near the hot glue 'holder' but me. We also discussed that after I used the hot glue 'holder,' they would have to wait until I said the car was cool enough for them to touch again.) 

During Jesus time, we re-read the story of Joseph.  We learned not to worry because God has a plan for us!  We also leaned that just like Joseph forgave his brothers, Jesus forgives all of our sins! We sang a song thanking God for the gift of forgiveness!
