Welcome back! I pray that you had a safe and restful break!
Today we worked together to clean the sensory table so that we could add something new in the table! It is important that children take part in classroom changes in order to take ownership of the classroom. As they take ownership, they are learning responsibility. Furthermore, it creates more meaningful learning experiences because they took part in the process!
Once the table was clean, we added straws. The straw were in wrappers, so we worked our fine motor skills to take the wrappers off.
Megan's mom read a story with Megan this morning. School is fun for moms and dads too! :)
We worked together in the block center. We practiced sharing, taking turns, and conflict resolution.
We love to write! Look at all of this writing practice!
Today we celebrated Drew's birthday. Happy Birthday Drew!!
During small group time, we worked collaboratively to paint with different textures. We mixed colors, took turns, and described how each item looked when used with paint. ("This one looks pokey!" "This one looks smooth!") Look how we are expanding our vocabulary!
We decided that since we are done learning about cars, it is time to close the car shop for good. We helped take apart the car shop.
We then discussed what we should create in the dramatic play. We had many good ideas, but we decided to create a school in the dramatic play! We brainstormed ideas of things we need to make school. One of the things that the children said we needed is a SMART board. We measured the SMART board with our hands and cut a piece of butcher paper to make it the same size.
We worked together to carry it over to the table.
We noticed that the SMART board has words on the top, so we decided to write the words SMART board on our board! This was a great, child-initiated way to practice writing!
The next small group really wanted to be sure we had 'letter spots' in our school. What a great idea! Each of the friends practiced writing a letter to create a letter spot. This is another great, child-initiated way to practice writing!
We then put all of the letters down. The friends sang the alphabet to be sure that we had the letters in order. They called out a letter that was missing, and one of the friends would write the missing letter. What a great opportunity to practice letter recognition and writing!
During Jesus time, we read the story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt. We learned that just as Pharaohs' army was washed away, Jesus washes away all of our sins! We praised God for the gift of forgiveness!
