Today we thank God for Ethan!  Happy birthday Ethan!!

We should nickname our classroom tornado alley!  We had three tornados sweep through our classroom today!

Don't worry!  The storm chasers were there to check out the tornados!

Andrew advised everyone, "Duck!  It's headed right for us!"

Oh no!  Megan got stuck in the tornado!

Hunter saved the day!

Bella and Sammie drew pictures of the tornado to warn everyone.  This was a great opportunity to also practice writing letters as we made labels for the tornados!

Joey and Claire checked the radar and five-day-forecast to see if the tornados were gone.

Jack and JJ checked the radar in the storm chaser car.

Allison and Alma created in the writing center!

Brian invented a new way to play wheelie!

Devereux also invented a new letter hopping game in which the children have to jump from green letter to green letter, ensuring not to touch the lava!  This is a great game to refine large motor development!

During morning we sorted environmental print by the number of claps (syllables) in the name.  This game incorporates valuable pre-reading skills including environmental print and phonemic awareness.  It also incorporates foundation math skills including number recognition and counting!

During small group time we practiced writing letters in salt!  This is a great kinesthetic activity to help the children remember how to form the letters correctly.

We also decorated Valentine hearts!

The friends worked with me on counting candy hearts with me.  First they practiced identifying the various numbers on their board.  Then, they practiced counting out the number of candy hearts as indicated by their board.

Preschool teachers are often asked how we meet the needs of the diverse learners in our class.  Small group time is a great way that we can do that!  During small group time, I am able to work with the children and differentiate the teaching and learning process as necessary.

Success in this activity differs from child to child.

Success for some children is recognizing single digit numbers.
Success for some children is recognizing all the numbers.

Success for some children is applying one to one correspondence with help while counting.
Success for some children is applying one to one correspondence independently while counting.
Success for some children is the ability to identify how many more hearts needed to complete a set.

Indoor recess!  (Spring will be here soon!  :) )

During Jesus time we learned the story of Jesus blessing the children.  We learned that Jesus loves us no matter what!  We played a silly game called Angry Cow, Happy Cow, and Sad Cow to help us remember that no matter how we feel, Jesus always loves us! He died on the cross and rose again to save us from our sins!
