The friends were excited to play with the dried corn in the sensory table today!   The children exercised their fine motor skills by pulling the corn off of the cob.  It is tricky to do!

Sammie wrote a song this morning!  She looked at the music notes in the hymnal and wrote her own music!  As children copy various letters, shapes, and even music notes they are gaining visual discrimination skills and learning that print carries meaning.  These are foundational reading skills!

We worked together to decorate the tree this morning too!

As we were decorating, some of the friends wondered what was taller- the  garland or us.  We capitalized on this child-initiated learning opportunity and measured each other to see which was taller.   As children measure, they are not only developing foundational math skills, they are also learning to use valuable comparative words.

The gift making area is quite popular!  The children are engaging in creative thinking.  Because creative thinking is a higher level thinking skill it, as you know, leads to further cognitive development!

Some of the friends created a rocket show again today.   Imaginary play such as this enables children to build and extend their knowledge and skills as they interact with their environment, with others, and on their own (Glover, 1999).

What would a day in preschool be without a dance party?!  :)

For the next three weeks, we will investigate Christmas.  We will play Christmas themed games, create gifts at the gift making center, and we will learn what Christmas is all about.

We will add Christmas words to our Christmas word wall throughout the next three weeks. We will call it our "stocking word of the day."  The stocking word of the day today is candles!

Some of the friends noticed that the letters in this word look different.  We discussed the difference between upper and lower case letters as we looked at the word.

We then webbed what we knew about Christmas.  Before Christmas break we will web again what we know about Christmas to see how it has changed.

During small group time, we practiced counting, one to one correspondence, and number recognition with a count and clip number game.  These skills are foundational math skills!

We then practiced fine motor control and writing skills as we made Christmas ornaments.

Of course we created at the gift making center too!

During Jesus time we learned more about the Advent.  If you would like to learn more about Advent, click HERE.
We learned that Christmas is important because God sent us a Savior- Jesus!  Jesus died on the cross and rose again to save us from our sins.  That is why Christmas is important!
