Happy Friday!

If you are looking for a place to worship this weekend, you are always welcome here at Zion!  We have services on Saturday at 5:00 and Sunday morning and 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00.  Hope to see you there!
Don't forget about our Christmas service this Sunday at 4:00.  Please bring you child to the church basement at 3:45 p.m.  Due to construction, parking in the church parking lot will fill quickly. If the church lot is full, parking is available in the Sonshine Center lot and the parking lot adjacent to the Sonshine center.

There will be an opportunity for a class group picture after the service. :)

There will also be a cookie reception after the service.  We are asking families to bring one dozen cookies to the reception.  Please drop the cookies off in the church basement when you drop off your child.  You may bring store bought cookies or homemade.  There will be Peanut Free cookies available at the reception for those with allergies.

If you have any questions, please let me know.  I look forward to celebrating the birth of our Lord with you on Sunday!

Our friends were excited to see pictures of our class in the block center today!  These pictures help enhance and extend block play!

We had a lot of fun playing Jesus in the manger this morning.  The children learn more about the story of Jesus' birth as they act it out together.  They are also learning valuable social skills including sharing, taking turns, and positive conflict resolution.

Mary (played by Megan) took care of baby Jesus (played by Devereux).

Jacob expanded his vocabulary by reading all of the Christmas words on our word wall.

Andrew and Joey practiced writing their name as they checked in.

Hunter explored the corn kernels in the sensory table.  "Stimulating the senses sends signals to children's brains that help to strengthen neural pathways important for all types of learning." (Look, Listen, Touch, Feel, Taste: The Importance of Sensory Play by Suzanne Gainsley)

Claire explored volume and weight with the balance in the sensory table.

We read many times throughout the day.  Although the children might not be able to read the words on the page, they are learning valuable concepts of print.  Furthermore, they are learning to love reading!

During small group time, we strengthened our balancing skills with a balance beam!

We then worked with Mrs. Douglas on recognizing numbers, one to one correspondence, and strengthening our fine motor skills as we played a game.  In this game, children choose a card and identify the number on the card. Then the children string the same number of beads on yarn.

This is a great game to play at home too!  You could use cheerios or popcorn to make decorations for your Christmas tree!

We then practiced quantifying as we played a roll and decorate the Christmas tree game.  Quantifying is a foundational math skill!

We created in the gift making center. As you know, creative thinking is a higher level thinking skill.  Engaging in creative thinking, because it is a higher level thinking skill, leads to further cognitive development.

We used cotton balls and other materials to create our own snowmen too!

During Jesus time, Zippy our puppet friend came and told us how he was so excited about his birthday party that he is going to invite everyone!  We learned that just like Zippy is excited about inviting his friends to his party, we as Christians are excited to share the great news that Jesus loves everyone!  He died on the cross and rose again to save us from our sins!
