Happy snowy Friday!
Check out what we did today!
Mr. Douglas, my husband, came and helped us set up our stable for the dramatic play! We loved helping Mr. Douglas put it together!
Many of the friends chose to sign in at the same time this morning! Our writing skills are developing and growing!
We decided to make a list of the things we need to put in our stable.
Devereux worked independently to sound out the words Baby Jesus to add to our list.
Blake noticed that these two blocks can be put together to make the letter L. We used this opportunity to use the Handwriting Without Tears wood pieces to create other letters. What a great opportunity to develop pre-reading skills such as letter recognition.
We enjoyed acting out the Jesus story in our classroom stable.
One of the messenger's job is to lead us in our letters during morning meeting! Sammie did a fantastic job leading our letters today. We connect the letters with a concrete object to help make letters more meaningful and also help letter sound association.
Reading together in school helps to foster the love of reading! As children read, they learn valuable concepts of print!
Our stocking word of the day was tree. We discussed our different trees at home. We also noticed that the letters on the stocking word of the day are all lower case.
During small group time, we painted paper that we will use for our nativity artwork!
The children worked on foundational math concepts with me including one to one correspondence, counting, number recognition, and positional words. One of the great things about small group time is that it allows an opportunity to work with the students on a more individual basis. This allows an opportunity for differentiation of instruction, learning each child's strengths, and scaffolding new learning.
We used the gift making center to make gifts for Drew! We miss you Drew!!
Because we could not go outside today, we had some fun indoor recess time!
During Jesus time we read the book Oh Holy Night- the Christmas story. We learned that although Santa and presents are fun parts of Christmas, the reason we have Christmas is because Jesus was born! He was born so that He could save us from our sins!
