Happy Half Birthday Avery!

Can you find the preschoolers in this picture?  :)

During free choice today many of our friends played spies.  They did a good job sneaking and spying! As children play imaginary games together, such as the spy game, they are learning valuable social and increasing cognitive development.

Bella brought her journal over to the stable to draw a picture of the stable in her journal.  She practiced creating an accurate representation of information!

Brynne worked hard writing in her journal as well!  She refined her fine motor skills as she created a beautiful masterpiece.

We had a lot of fun playing Jesus in the manger this morning.  The children learn more about the story of Jesus' birth as they act it out together.  They are also learning valuable social skills including sharing, taking turns, and positive conflict resolution.

We had a visitor from Lutheran High tell us all about Saint Nick visiting Lutheran High tomorrow night!  She also left us a treat-candy canes!

Violet helped lead our alphabet today.  As we review the alphabet together, we also review concrete objects that contain the sound of the letter.  This helps attach each letter to it's corresponding sound.

During small group time, we strengthened our balancing skills with a balance beam!

We then practiced quantifying as we played a roll and decorate the Christmas tree game.  Quantifying is a foundational math skill!

We created in the gift making center. As you know, creative thinking is a higher level thinking skill.  Engaging in creative thinking, because it is a higher level thinking skill, leads to further cognitive development.

We refined our fine motor skills as we weaved with lacing cards!

We then worked with Mrs. Douglas on recognizing numbers, one to one correspondence, and strengthening our fine motor skills as we played a game.  In this game, children choose a card and identify the number on the card. Then the children string the same number of beads on yarn.

This is a great game to play at home too!  You could use cheerios or popcorn to make decorations for your Christmas tree!

During Jesus time, I packed a bag for my Christmas trip.  We then discussed how the shepherds were so excited to meet Jesus that they didn't even pack a bag!  We then talked about baptism.  We learned that in baptism Jesus comes into our hearts. (If you are interested in having your child baptized, please let me know.  I am happy to provide information or support. :) )

We made the sign of the cross on each other's heads and reminded each other that "You are a child of God."  The best gift of Christmas is salvation through Jesus our Savior!
