Welcome to our new dog school!  The friends loved playing together and did a great job taking turns being the dog trainer!

We had a few questions about what dog trainers do, so we did some research on the computer!

Hunter made a badge that identified him as a dog trainer and not a dog.

Brynne and Allison wrote a menu for the dog food served at dog school.  We worked together to sound out the words of the food on the menu.  They practiced letter recognition and letter sound matching!

During morning meeting we practiced recognizing shapes as we played a fun tricky mouse game.  In this game, the children close their eyes while the mouse hides in a shape 'house.'  Each child has a turn guessing in which 'house' the mouse is hiding.

"Children who learn about shapes are building skills that will help them with reading, writing, and math. Learning about shapes also can help them understand other signs and symbols." (Shapes, 2013)

During small group time we continued to explore shapes with tangrams.  We practiced identifying shapes and their properties as we worked together to create.

For example, one of the friends said, "I need a circle."
Then I said, "I forgot what a circle looks like, can you describe it to me so I can help you find it?"
Then the friend said, "It's round.  It kind of looks like a letter O."

The friends then took turns calling out a shape for their partner to find.  This, again, helps with shape recognition.

We then used different shapes to make shape creations!

Finally, we took turns finding different shapes in our environment and taking pictures of them using the iPod.  Here are our pictures:

During Jesus time we learned about the story of Moses and the bronze snake found in the book of Numbers in the bible.  We learned that sometimes we, like the people in the story, make bad choices.  We learned that Jesus always forgives us and He loves us very much!
