Welcome back!  I hope that you had a restful weekend!

Today we thanked God for Hunter as we celebrated his birthday.  Happy Birthday Hunter!

We had more fun cutting the straws today!  Again, this provides a great opportunity for fine motor growth.  Plus, cutting straws is fun!

Alma sorted our pencils today.  She picked out the ones that were too short and saved the ones that were just right.  Sorting is a foundational math skill!

The writing center is a great way to engage in meaningful writing and exercise those fine motor skills!

We investigated the new items in the science center too.  We used our sense of touch to describe the bark and pine cones.  "They feel rough."  "The pine cones are kinda sticky!"

This investigation also provides a great opportunity to expand the children's vocabulary.

Pretend school was a favorite place this morning!  The children are learning to make sense of their world.  They are also learning to take turns, share, and follow the pretend teacher's directions.  This center gives an opportunity for the children to practice leadership skills too!

Look at that writing practice in pretend school too!

The blocks are a great way for children to engage in creative thinking and explore spatial relationships.

We also explored number concepts with the dominos.  The children looked for matching sets, counted the dots, and compared the dots.  These are all foundational math skills!  Furthermore, the children are practicing visual discrimination which is a valuable pre-reading skill!

Look at the road the friends worked hard to create.  Notice that most of the numbers are matching to continue the road.  Great job friends!

During small group time, we went outside and did an observational drawing of a tree. We noticed that the top part of the trees are different shapes, and we discussed the shapes we saw.  We saw circle trees and triangle trees.  As we drew, we discussed the different parts of the tree.

During the discussion one of the friends asked, "How do the trees stay up?"

So we discussed roots.  We also learned that sometimes roots come out of the ground to give us a 'sneak peek' at what they look like!  We searched for sneaky roots and we found one!

We then worked together to paint the whole white paper brown.  We will use these papers to make a tree in our classroom.  We practiced sharing and team work; not to mention, we love to paint!

During Jesus time we learned the story of God providing food for the people of Israel while they were in the desert.  We learned that God provides for us too!  The greatest thing that He has provided for us is salvation!  He sent Jesus on the cross to die and rise again so that we can be with Him in heaven!
