Happy November!   I hope you had a safe, fun, and at least partially dry Halloween last night!  :)

If you are looking for a place to worship this weekend, you are always welcome here at Zion!  We have services Saturday night at 5:00 and Sunday morning at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00.  We also have bible study at 9:30.  I look forward to seeing you there!

Today we thanked God for Claire as we celebrated her birthday!  Happy Birthday Claire!

Today was an exciting day! Because all of the straw wrappers were off, we started cutting the straws!  The purpose of this activity is is strengthen fine motor skills and practice using scissors.  The straws encourage even reluctant scissor users because the straws fly all over the place when they are cut!  We had a blast!

We also enjoyed learning how to usie our new level in the block center.  Allowing the children to use real life tools to use provides an opportunity to learn life long skills.  It also provides an opportunity for further discovery and language development.  ("This shelf is level."  "My tower is crooked.")

Of course playing school was very popular this morning!

As was creating with the magnet blocks.  Blocks provide an opportunity to learn foundational math skills including problem solving and spatial relationships.  We also practiced positive conflict resolution and social skills!

At school we provide opportunities for children to engage in writing practice daily.  It is important for children to engage in writing practice that is meaningful.  This meaningful writing encourages excited writers and fosters the love of writing!

The children were so excited to read from our special Jesus books.  As they were reading to one another I overheard a friend say, "Come on to pretend school.  We are going to learn all about Jesus.  Don't you want to learn all about Jesus?"

During small group time, we discussed the changes we see in  Fall.  We also discussed that sometimes Fall is called Autumn.  We went out to God's creation to collect nature items to use in our new science center.

We sorted the nature items.  Sorting is a foundational math skill!

The first group wanted to make a sign that said, "Science Area," so I started to write the words.  As soon as I wrote the S, the friends started saying, "Can I write some letters?"  and "I can write that letter."  They are excited about writing!

The second group helped shape the sticks into letters to write the word AREA.

The second group wanted to make nature collages with their findings, so we took out the glue and got to work.

During Jesus time we acted out the story of Moses and the Red Sea; the children played the part of the Red Sea!  We learned that with God all things are possible!

We also had a long discussion about God and Jesus.  The children are so interested in our Savior!  It is so great to see the gift of faith growing in their hearts!
